| LAPD were commissioned as the lighting consultants for this project, which involved the re-development of the exterior landscape and ticket office of the Tower of London . | Employed by the lead architects, Stanton Williams, and working for Historic Royal Palaces, it was essential that the lighting design was discrete and sympathetic to both landscape and topography of the site. | |
| In response, the lighting solution developed by LAPD to illuminate the general area ensured the need for column-mounted luminaries was removed. All the floodlights providing the illumination are contained within huge granite plinths and hidden behind stainless steel louvers. | Due to the amount of light required and the restricted space in each plinth, LAPD designed a special sledge to mount the luminaries to. This sledge is constructed in 316 stainless steel with stainless steel gas springs. This design enables the frame to collapse for removal from the granite for maintenance purposes. | |
