To mark the sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War, The Children’s War is a major exhibition that looks at the conflict through the eyes of British children.

Incorporating hands-on activities for visitors of all ages, it also features a walk through 1940’s house and part of a post-war prefab. Shrouding the 1940’s house, a new mezzanine floor gives direction and the opportunity to extend this area of the museum.

LAPD worked with the existing configuration of electrical services, plus new and existing museum stock. This enabled a cost effective lighting solution to be created that provides flexibility through the use of track and spotlighting.

Honeycomb louvers allowed LAPD to use spotlighting at low, long angles to dramatise the feel and mood of this exhibition. This effect creates long dark shadows through the time zones that depict fear and anxiety.
