trust awards. Stanton Williams’ visitors centre, commissioned by English Heritage, is one of Yorkshire ’s best contemporary buildings and part of a major reworking of the Whitby Abbey Site. |
On the North Façade , previously in-filled windows are fitted with a single sheet of glass. Historical reconstruction was the choice of approach for the courtyards. |

| The new structure extends over the partly demolished south elevation and provides a framework from which an enclosing curtain of glass and cedar is hung. A mixture of spot and flood reflectors are used to hone the final scheme during commissioning. | Adjustable recessed downlights utilising tungsten halogen, are angled and focussed onto points and areas of interest. Mounted close to the wall surface, texture is accentuated and the stones degradation enhanced. |

| Dapples of light entice you between the showcase cabinets. Oak floating ceilings provide the perfect platform to create the effect of natural daylight bleeding in. This is achieved by concealed fluorescent lamps. | ||
