The project at Ayr in Scotland took on a very different design format. Architects i10 from Glasgow, were commissioned to develop a large open-air pedestrian promenade, one of the largest in Europe. |
They produced a provisional lighting scheme featuring Woodhouse products, but then Woodhouse introduced LAPD as a sub-consultant to confirm the design intent and use their design expertise to add some ‘wow’ factors. | |
| Art work and high level architectural features were aspects that could be enhanced and the shopping centre needed to draw the public from the near by town centre. | Blue LED beacon lights at the top of the buildings attract attention and give a distinctive personality to the whole area, colour changing lighting at high level add drama to the soffit and the Celtic shopping centre logo is etched onto thick glass inlays which are illuminated from behind. | |
| All these treatments add character to an otherwise sophisticated lighting design. | Woodhouse exterior lanterns and amenity columns produce a pleasant, well-lit environment and the architecture of the external walls is echoed by pencil beams of light from wall mounted luminaires with an upward and downward light distribution. | |
