LAPD were commissioned as the lighting consultants for this project, involving the re-development of the exterior landscape and ticket office of the Tower of London. Employed by the lead architects, Stanton Williams, and working for Historic Royal Palaces, it was essential that the lighting design was discrete and sympathetic to both landscape and topography of the site. | |
| The Pavilion is an open plan promenade illuminated using granite plinths. Incorporated within the design is a stainless steel sledge that allows for rising and lowering to occur on gas struts. This aids maintenance and minimises the aperture of the plinths. | 8mm stainless steel louvers control viewing angles into fixtures and ensure architectural cleanliness. This approach replaced the existing lamp standards, with a result of uninterrupted views across to The Tower. | |
| Uplighting to opposing soffits raises levels to the ticket kiosks and educational centre, forging a common route for human traffic. Educational banners lead you up the moat ramp, protruding from the ramps edge. | The atmosphere is enhanced from light spilling from within a rebate under the retaining wall. CFL uplights highlight the graphics and welcome signage and assist with site orientation. | |
