Celebrating 125 years of M&S, the exhibition was designed as a two-part story showcasing the product and practice innovations “Front of House” and the people behind the scenes in “Back of House”.
We designed a harmonised approach to lighting of both areas, featuring purposeful internal lighting of the glass showcases at the Front of House and tightly controlled beams from suspended track-mounted spot fittings, carefully commissioned to eliminate glare, reflection and interference with projected images.

The large picture windows were transformed into “illuminated” light boxes, with archival graphics printed onto a semi-translucent fabric. Simultaneously blocking UV degradation and diffusing the strong morning sunlight.
