Taking inspiration from candlelight, LAPD manipulated the existing lighting scheme, and used additional fittings supplied by iGuzzini, to develop a design that added drama to Southwark Cathedral.
The new Millennium building was lit with blue light, the nave with orange, and the central tower with red. Particular intensity was given to the tower and the spires, as these elements can be seen from many vantage points, including the River Thames.
The solution was achieved with a minimal number of new fittings. By applying coloured gels to the existing luminaires and by changing lamps, drama was added to the night environment within an energy efficient framework.
