A discreet solution was required for the redevelopment of the exterior landscape and the ticket office. Uplighting to the signage and the ceilings of the ticket kiosks and educational centre assists in orienting the visitor. The open promenade is illuminated by floodlights contained within granite plinths and hidden behind stainless steel louvres. The amount of light required and the restricted space in each plinth led LAPD to design a sledge on which the luminaires are mounted. This can collapse for removal for maintenance purposes. The solution ensured that the need for column-mounted luminaires was removed and the result is uninterrupted views across to the Tower.
