The Millennium Seedbank is a Kew Gardens conservation initiative. By housing seeds from around the world, this project will preserve thousands of plant species.
The Winter Garden provides contemporary exhibition facilities. Metal halide projectors create a calm, dappled effect. The philosophy behind the building design is a 200-year life span. The lamps therefore offer a 10,000-hour life to reduce maintenance and running costs.
Within the exhibition area all fittings are directional,

thereby providing flexibility. Metal screens also provide the facility for mechanical dimming. A ‘bombproof’ approach was adopted within the vault areas. This space is lit with fluorescent and bulkhead fittings.
