Architectural lighting design

LAPD was commissioned to design the lighting for the central atrium of this landmark building, which accommodates 1000 students and staff.
Daylight has been maximised and a minimalist, low maintenance solution created. Pencil beam exterior projectors (150W) are cantilevered over the glazed roof light. These produce intense pools of light across the width of the landings and light the stairs to the required 150 lux. As light penetrates the space from above
, splay light, only visible at dusk, creates interesting modelling to the internal
form and volume.
