Architectural lighting design - Al Faisaliah Foundation
Client: Al Faisaliah Foundation
Architect: Foster & Partners

The Al Faisaliah Foundation comprises apartments, hotels, offices, a banquet hall and a shopping mall.

Natural daylight, controlled by architectural blinds, creates a calm environment. The two upper levels of the mall house retail units, and to minimise light levels close to the units, lighting is located in the centre of the space. Pencil beams of light penetrate from the ceiling to the mall below, creating a dappled effect. Fittings are housed in the large webbed ceiling supports. These use tungsten halogen to allow for dimming, while double reflectors reduce the necessary aperture size and ensure glare is eliminated.
